Welcome to Charmies!

Charmies are a completely OPEN and free to make species. They are animal / anthro characters with bottom halves that are made of see-through material and filled with any manner of items.Their unique design traits include large cheek markings and toy-like accessories called Charms, which are a source of magic.

Charmies were created by Dracononite.Charmies were originally modeled after sensory comfort items such as fidgets, building blocks, slime, glitter, chews, etc.The concept of putting objects into characters isn't a new one, nor one that Charmies are trying to own or copyright. Similarities to Charmies in character designs that don't belong to the species are of no issue and heavy inspiration may be taken from the species.

Say hi to Lemonade!

This is Lemonade, the official mascot of the species and the character that inspired Charmies! They're a plush chimera with soft gel horns and a glass bottom half filled with blue liquid, glitter stars, and lemon slices. Their charm is a big plastic star at the end of their tail, and their magic is making rainbows appear!(click them to see their Toyhouse profile!)

🌊 About the Species 🌊

Let's check out some examples of just how diverse Charmies can be! Our favorite mascot Lemonade will be demonstrating the many design traits of Charmies.

Biology, Body Types, and Forms

Charmies' bodies can be made of practically anything: biological material, plush, plastic, vinyl/pooltoy, pinata, slime, etc. Their bottom halves are usually glass, plastic, or other kinds of hollow, transparent material. The separation between the upper and lower halves is distinct, and can be different shapes or asymmetrical.Charmies can have any kind of body type you can imagine, and can be many different shapes and sizes. Thin, fat, small, stout, giant - whatever!

From anthro to feral, centaur, and even mermaid, Charmies can have any kind of "form". They can be any type of animal species, even mythical creatures or amorphous beings, with any kinds of features. They can have multiple or floating heads or limbs, wings, horns/antlers, paws/claws/hooves, etc.The only restriction is that Charmies cannot be humanoid.

Cheek Markings

Large, defined cheek markings are the only required marking for Charmies. These can be any shape and color as long as they are obvious and identifiable among the design's other colors / markings, and are not largely obscured by other markings on top, or part of a larger color area. Get creative, they don't have to be circles!

"Deco" - aka, filling!

The bottom halves of Charmies are often filled with any manner of fun items called "deco," named after small decorative glitter sprinkled on or mixed into slime.Charmies can have any kind of items as deco! Some examples include: clouds, water, slime, crayons, food, toys, gummy guts, drinks, bugs, sand, plants, fossils, lava, gems, mulch, paper, ghosts, soil, candy, and much more.A Charmie's tail, horns, claws, spikes, wings, etc. can all also be filled with deco!

Charms and Magic

Charms are what Charmies are named after! They give Charmies the ability to use magic and transform between different forms. Each Charmie who has a Charm has their own special magic ability, many of which are unique, small effects such as: mimicking sounds, telekinesis, bursts of confetti, small rain showers, etc.A Charm is a distinct item, accessory or addition - they can't be a marking. A collar with tags, a stitched-on patch, a trinket tied to a horn, a gel shape, etc! Charms are commonly found on the front of the torso or tail, but can be anywhere at all.Charms are completely optional, and can also be missing or broken. If a Charm is missing, the Charmie can't use their magic at all - and if it's broken, it might negatively affect their magic if they try to use it (for example: causing a small storm when their magic is typically bringing sunshine).

🌱 Q&A 🌱

What is the status of the species?
Charmies are open and anyone is free to make personal characters.
Do Charmies have a masterlist?
No they do not. They did when the species was originally created, but I quickly realized that the amount of management work needed to track and organize every Charmie was overwhelming and unnecessary.
Are you looking for moderators or official artists?
No, I'm not looking to manage the species actively or build any sort of management team. The most I plan on doing is looking for temporary guest artists to make adoptables!
How do I get a Charmie?
You can make your own, buy an adoptable, or commission a custom design from an artist that is okay with designing a Charmie! You can also be sold, traded, or gifted a Charmie by a previous owner.
Do I have to join the Toyhouse world to own a Charmie?
No, you don't! The Toyhouse is just available for anyone who wants to join to submit their Charmie to be showcased, or to get notifications of any species updates or Charmie adoptables.
Is the DeviantArt Group still active?
No it is not, I haven't used DeviantArt in years and do not plan on coming back to it, so the group is not active or managed. I've left it open as an archive.
Will there be a Discord server for Charmies?
No, I do not plan on ever making a Discord server for the species, if one exists, I did not approve it.
Can I create free-to-use resources for the Charmie species, such as Toyhouse profile codes, lineart / YCH bases, etc?
Yes, and feel free to share with me! I may feature them on the site and Toyhouse.
Can I make Charmie adoptables?
Please don't, unless you're a guest artist that I've reached out to! This is to prevent Charmies that don't follow the traits or are created by unwelcome parties from being mistaken as official / approved.
How can I be notified when Charmie adoptables are put up for sale?
You can join the Toyhouse world! Official adoptables will be submitted to and advertised there, along with my social media if you follow me elsewhere.
Can I make Charmies as custom design commissions, for raffles or giveaways, or as gifts or trades?
Yes, feel free to!
Can I make a Charmie version of a character that is part of another open or closed species, such as dutch angel dragons, sergals, protogens or xaeco?
Only if that species allows it!
Can I change a character that was originally designed as a Charmie, to not be a Charmie anymore?
Yes, if you wish to not have the character be a part of the species for whatever reason, you are free to redesign them!

Commissions specifically tailored to Charmie characters are allowed, such as shaker charms or see-through badges. If you plan on producing Charmie merchandise for profit, I'd appreciate you reaching out to me first!
